GOD'S JUDGEMENT - Thought for Sunday 1st of August, 2010

Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear. (Mt 13:36-43)

This explanation of the parable speaks about the image of God we have. Does God or the Son of Man sit at the judgement seat and condemn all the evil doers to a torturous suffering because of their evil doings? Is God so cruel as to treat people so badly? But at the same time God cannot be so very kind or grand fatherly to overlook any and every evil that is done by man. 

Listeners of the time of Jesus were very much familiar with the topics of weed and wheat; good and bad; righteous and sinners. This was the language through which the leaders of the people (religion) talked about. They talked in this language to speak about the people who belonged to God and those who were against God. They knew who the weeds were and who the wheat was.

This passage also looks back to the image of the Son of Man in Daniel 7. Son of Man was there to judge the ruler who oppressed the God's people (Dan 3) with a fiery furnace. It is about the judgement of God on the evil rulers who were not belonging to God. So we can say that the judgement is about 'belonging to God or not'.

மார்த்தா மரியாவைச் சந்தித்தல்
38 அவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அப்போது இயேசு ஓர் ஊரை அடைந்தார். அங்கே பெண் ஒருவர் அவரைத் தம் வீட்டில் வரவேற்றார். அவர் பெயர் மார்த்தா.39 அவருக்கு மரியா என்னும் சகோதரி ஒருவர் இருந்தார். மரியா ஆண்டவருடைய காலடி அருகில் அமர்ந்து அவர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.40 ஆனால் மார்த்தா பற்பல பணிகள் புரிவதில் பரபரப்பாகி இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, ' ஆண்டவரே, நான் பணிவிடை செய்ய என் சகோதரி என்னைத் தனியே விட்டு விட்டாளே, உமக்குக் கவலையில்லையா? எனக்கு உதவி புரியும்படி அவளிடம் சொல்லும் ' என்றார்.41 ஆண்டவர் அவரைப் பார்த்து, ' மார்த்தா, மார்த்தா! நீ பலவற்றைப் பற்றிக் கவலைப்பட்டுக் கலங்குகிறாய்.42 ஆனால் தேவையானது ஒன்றே. மரியாவோ நல்ல பங்கைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்துக்கொண்டாள்; அது அவளிடமிருந்து எடுக்கப்படாது ' என்றார்.



இன்றைய நற்செய்தியில், நமது கவலைகள் மற்றும் பயம் பற்றியும் யேசு நம்மிடம் பேசுகிறார். அவைகள் நம்மை தொந்தரவு செய்கிறது. அவைகள் நம்மை கட்டுபடுத்த ஆரம்பித்தால், நம் வாழ்விற்கு கேடு வந்து விடும். ஏனெனில், அவைகள், நாம் கடவுள் மேல் வைத்துள்ள கண்களை வேறு பக்கம் திருப்பிவிடும், மற்றும் அதன் விளைவுகள் இன்னும் மோசமாகி விடும்.

மரியாவோ நல்ல பங்கை தேர்த்தெடுத்து கொண்டாள்; யேசுவிற்கு சீடராக இருப்பதையே குறிக்கோளாக கொண்டு , வேறு எதுவும் அவரை தொந்தரவு செய்யாதபடி பார்த்து கொண்டார். நாம் நமது பல வேலை நெருக்கடிகளிடையே, சில நேரம் ஒதுக்கி, யேசுவோடு அமைதியாக உட்கார்ந்து , அவரிடமிருந்து கற்று கொண்டால், நமது பல கவலைகள் , கவலையே பட தேவையில்லை என்று நமக்கு புரியும்.
யேசுவின் காலடியில் நாம் அமைதியாக உட்கார்ந்து அவரிடம் வேண்டினால் தான், நமது துயரங்கள் கவலைகள், மற்றும் துன்பங்கள் அனைத்தும் போக்கும், நம்பிக்கை கிடைக்கும். இந்த சோதனைகளிலிருந்து வெளிவர நமக்கு தேவையான ஞானம் கிடைக்கும். மார்த்தாவின் சின்ன கவலை போல, நமது சின்ன கவலைகளும், யேசுவின் மேல் இருந்த நமது கண்கள் எடுக்கப்பட்டால், அது பாவமாகும். எதுவும், யேசுவிடமிருந்து நம்மை அகற்றினால், அது நமக்கு நல்லதல்ல.

யேசுவிடமிருந்து , நாம் எப்படி பரிசுத்த வாழ்வை வாழ்வது என்று கற்று கொள்ளவில்லை என்றால், அவர் மேல் நம் கண்கள் இல்லாமல் இருந்தால், நாம் பரிசுத்த வாழ்வில் வளர முடியாது. அவரை போல நாமும் அன்பு செய்ய முடியாது, அவர் கொடுக்கும் எல்லா அன்பையும், நாம் பெற முடியாது. நாம் அவரோடு அமைதியாக அமர்ந்து, அவரிடம் வேண்டி, அவர் கூறும் போதனைகளை குடித்தால், ஒழிய நாம் அவரின் அன்பை அரவணைக்க முடியாது. வண்டி ஓட்டுபொழுதோ, அல்லது, ப்ரசங்கம் கேடபதும் போதாது.

கலக்கமும், கவலைகளும் பயத்தின் வகைகள் ஆவை. என்னவோ தவறான விசயம் நடக்க போகிறது என பயப்படுகிறோம். உண்மையான காரணத்திற்காக கவலைபட்டாலும், அது யேசுவின் மேல் உள்ள கண்களை தடுத்தால், அது தவறாகும். பயம் நமக்கு, ஒரு எச்சரிக்கை மணியாகும், அதனை கண்டவுடன், நாம் அமைதியாக யேசுவோடு உட்கார்ந்து ,அவருடன் கலந்தாலோசித்து, எதனால் இந்த பயம் என்று தெரிந்து, அவரிடமிருந்து அதற்கான பதிலையும், ஊக்கத்தையும், அதன் பிறகு அமைதி வரும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையையும் பெறலாம்.

Thanks for the life and Ministry of Late.Appiah John Selvaratnam

Its indeed very happy moments of meeting  Mrs. Rose Nesaratnam Selvaratnam  in Colombo. She is wife of Late. Appiah John Selvaratnam from Alaveddy.

Late. A.J. Selvaratnam worked as an English teacher at Alaveddy, Skanthavarodhaya College for more than 30 years. Mr.Selvaratnam also served as a Treasurer for the Alaveddy Church for more than 7 years and wandered everywhere on his push bike to collect money for the church and managed the church matters. They moved to Colombo in the year 1991 after the 2nd war escalated in Jaffna Peninsula.

He has four sons and daughters;
1.Mrs. Ratnasothy Nagendram
2.Mrs. Jegasothy Thavakumar
3.Late Arulnesan
4.Mr. Jebanesan

Mr. Selvaratnam died on 22nd of March, 2010 on his 93rd age. He was born on 3rd of February, 1917. His funeral service was took place at Mahinda funeral Parlor, on 25th of March, 2010 at 3 pm.

God bless this good soul and grant him eternal rest at His site!
